The Guyer Opera House is proud to present our 2019 season!
A rock musical with music, lyrics and a book by Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy, based on the 1989 film of the same name written by Daniel Waters. Whilst being light-hearted with humorous characters and "fun songs", the show opens conversations about dark issues, including bullying, teen suicide, sexual assault, homosexuality, and violence in schools.
A play by American playwright John Pielmeier which tells the story of a novice nun who gives birth and insists that the child was the result of a virgin conception. A psychiatrist and the mother superior of the convent clash during the resulting investigation. The title is a pun on the Latin phrase Agnus Dei (Lamb of God).
A jukebox musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA, a Swedish pop/dance group active from 1972 to 1982 and one of the most popular international pop groups of all time.
Junie B. Jones
Created by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich comes Junie B. Jones, The Musical – a delightful adaptation of four of Barbara Park's best-selling books. It's Junie B.'s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal," and first grade has never been more exciting.
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
An ancient, Transylvanian evil makes its way from the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains to the teaming streets of London, bringing with it an insatiable love for a mortal woman and a taste for human blood.
Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
